Music by Jennifer Anderson

When I think about Honey Creek, many images fill my thoughts. Country, home, easy living, corn fields, green grass, and crystal blue lake. Sitting down to write a Honey Creek story, I often find I need something to put me in the HC mood. My best solution. Music.

I'm one of those people who enjoy listening to music when they write and often the right type of music makes the writing flow. (He He!)

When I'm driving in the car and I hear a song that transport me to middle Ohio, I usually toss my phone to my daughter so she can write down the band name and song.

Here are just a few of my favorites:
The Band Perry: All Your Life
Jason Aldeen: Dirt Road Anthem
Taylor Swift: White Horse; Our Song; Story of Us (I write YA *shrugs*)
Adele: Some One Like You (I think I just like this song and the soulfulness makes me think about falling in and out of love)
Carrie Underwood: All-American Girl
Brad Paisley: Mud on the Tires (cracks me up)

When you hear a certain song, what do you think of? Does the first notes or lyrics automatically make you think of a movie or book? If so what song?  And if you've read Bloom by Julie Anne Lindsey, what songs would you make as the books soundtrack? I'm thinking something by Miranda Lambert.

  1. I can never remember the names of songs, but I do know what I like. Some books I use a soundtrack for writing, and others I don't. Honey Creek YA books are great with Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. Thanks for the links to the songs...how fun.

    1. Thanks Suzanne. I'm bad about titles and singer names especially with country. I'm a fairly new listener. I have to rely on my kids for help. They actually helped me search on YouTube.

  2. I only listen to music without lyrics when I write...otherwise, I'll be singing along instead of concentrating..haha.

When I'm not writing, I enjoy background music of all types. Rush, James Taylor, Heart, Spin Doctors, Gee...I like a lot of music! I'm also a big fan of some foreign music.

    1. Nadja, it sounds like we like some of the same music. I can't listen to lyrics when I write either, but I can listen to them before I write to get me in the "write" frame of mind.

Jen, you'll be a techno wizard before you know it!

  3. I'm usually working out when I listen to music, which mean I'm not really paying attention to the lyrics. It's the rhythm that's motivating me.
